Goblin Slayer Dai Katana is the best kind of spin-off, the kind of series that helps to tell you more about the world of the main series while not getting bogged down by trying to stick too close to the main story.

In the original series, Dai Katana's party are legends who conquered the Dungeon of the Dead and slew the Demon Lord. This series follows the party of the Sword Maiden as newbie adventurers making their first ventures in the Dungeon of the Dead.

At the start of the series, the enigmatic Captain and his cousin a Female Wizard recruit enter the fortress city and begin to recruit members to their motley crew adding a Warrior, a Monk, a Scout, and the Sword Maiden herself, then only a novice bishop. Only then do they set out on their ventures into the Dungeon of the Dead.

Compared to the main series focusing on a single party fighting their way through a single place it shows how dangerous and deadly this undertaking really is. Compared to the Goblin Slayer's main party waging a never-ending war against the threat of goblins this series gets to showcase a variety of monster making for even more entertaining battles than ever before.

This is a world that will chew up and spit out anyone so those who will one day stand atop it have a very long way to go.
