Jujutsu Kaisen: How Shiyuba Changed Everything

Jujutsu Kaisen’s anime had just had the first episode of the biggest arc to date, the Shibuya arc. The debut of its biggest villains as well as the biggest change in dynamics of all time. For those of you who are just watching the anime now’s the time to get off because we’re about to have big spoilers for the rest of the manga to date.

To begin with, the sealing of Saturou Gojo changes everything, with him around the world isn’t in danger. Any major threat could be taken out by his arrival but with him sealed all the other Jujutsu sorcerers are forced to step up their game to fill the void.

We see this as we enter the culling game, Jujutsu Society is on the back foot and having to make sure they gather all their forces to contend with the enemies that are coming out of the woodwork. What this means for the story on the whole is that fights become much more dangerous, there’s no safety net and everyone is in the line of fire. Even just in Shiyuba the sealing of Gojo directly leads to Dagon being capable of killing Nanami one of Japan's strongest sorcerers and to the destruction of Shibuya at the hands of Sukuna.

It’s a major turning point in the manga that is all the more clear with the recent return of Gojo. He’s returned and within a handful of chapters, he’s doing direct battles with one of the series most powerful threats. The author uses him almost as a shield for the other weaker characters, if they can’t fight then Gojo certainly can.

Shibuya is the arc that changed everything, the heroes had to step up and the world dipped into chaos. It was Akutami taking off the kid's gloves and putting the cast through the ringer for a bit.
